The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revealed that a group known as the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State has raised ₦500 million for the family of the late Senator Barry Mpigi.
In a video shared by TVC News, Wike made this known in Port Harcourt during a night of tribute held in honour of the late lawmaker, who passed away on February 19 after a brief illness. He explained that the money would be used to set up a foundation in Mpigi’s name to support his family and preserve his legacy.
According to him, the foundation is meant to provide long-term assistance and ensure that the impact of the late senator continues even after his death. He emphasized that while the amount may not be enough, it shows the strong connection and support from those who worked with Mpigi.
Wike also called on the late senator’s political associates and friends to remain committed to supporting his family. He stressed that real support goes beyond kind words and public tributes.
He noted that standing by the family and maintaining relationships is more important than organizing events alone. The minister encouraged continued unity and care for the loved ones Mpigi left behind.
In his words, “They have raised for you the sum of 500 million to start up a foundation for you. It’s not enough, but remember that this was where you husband belonged too.”…..See More
