The former Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, in an interview with a Trust TV correspondent, analyzed the ongoing issues surrounding the ADC and INEC, particularly following INEC’s decision to delist the leadership of the David Mark–led NEC of the ADC.
When asked about the defection of Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the ADC and its implications for the ruling All Progressives Congress, Ologbondiyan expressed that the current administration had consistently underestimated the Nigerian people and failed to anticipate the possibility of a united opposition.
He noted that the developments in Kano served as a turning point, suggesting that the scale of events there significantly heightened concern within the ruling party. According to him, this shift prompted a strong reaction from the government, even in a manner that, in his view, did not fully align with established legal considerations.
Ologbondiyan further emphasized that, despite the controversies, the ADC operates within the bounds of the law and is not a lawless political organization. He maintained that the party continues to conduct its affairs in accordance with legal provisions under its present leadership.
“And if you have followed this leader’s history, you will know that he is a man who understands strategy and has deployed it effectively in the ADC. Once he came into office, he called all the state chairmen together and said ‘You will not spend a day less than the tenure you have been elected to serve.’
“Even those who have become recitant and they are betraying their consciences. But that is the person of the man. You think it’s easy for a man to be elected Senate President for four years and re-elected as Senate President unopposed for a second time.
