According to a report by The Times of Israel, Brad Cooper, head of the United States Central Command, said that American and Israeli forces have “clearly accomplished” their objective of degrading Iran’s military capabilities.
In a video statement, Cooper said the joint military effort had significantly reduced Iran’s ability to project power beyond its borders. “We set out to dismantle the Iranian regime’s ability to project power beyond its own borders, and we clearly accomplished this task,” he said.
Cooper added that Iran has suffered what he described as a “generational military defeat,” stating that the United States and Israel “systematically destroyed Iran’s ability to conduct large-scale military operations for years to come.”
He further said that “Iran’s conventional military capability, built over 40 years at the cost of billions of dollars, has been eliminated.”
According to Cooper, the operations involved extensive military activity targeting Iranian assets. He said US forces conducted more than 13,000 strikes on Iranian military targets and carried out thousands of combat flights as part of the campaign.
“After successfully conducting more than 13,000 strikes on Iranian military targets and flying thousands upon thousands of combat flights, US forces have paused offensive operations in accordance with the ongoing ceasefire,” he said.
Cooper noted that the pause in operations aligns with the ceasefire currently in effect, following the period of sustained military engagement.
Despite the halt in offensive operations, he emphasized that US forces remain in position. “However, we remain present, we remain vigilant, and we remain ready if called,” Cooper said.
He added that the US military continues to coordinate with regional partners, highlighting ongoing defensive measures. According to Cooper, American forces are maintaining “the most sophisticated and largest active air defense umbrella in the world” alongside allied nations.
