Omoyele Sowore has explained why he did not participate in a recent protest organized by members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), despite the presence of several prominent political figures at the demonstration.
The activist and former presidential candidate addressed journalists shortly after the event, clarifying that his absence from the protest was not due to a lack of interest in the issues being raised but rather because he was not invited to take part in the gathering. According to Sowore, he believes political actions and alliances should be based on clear principles rather than mere political convenience.
The protest reportedly involved well-known Nigerian political figures including David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Atiku Abubakar, among other members and supporters of the party. In his remarks to the press, he stated, “I wasn’t going to join the protest, because I was not invited to join them.” He emphasized that his absence should not be interpreted as indifference toward the country’s political situation.
According to him, his activism is rooted in principles rather than political rivalry alone. “I am not in opposition for opposition’s sake,” he said, stressing that his position on national issues is guided by strong convictions and a consistent ideological stance.
He concluded by suggesting that his approach to activism and governance differs from that of some politicians who only adopt opposition positions when it suits their political interests. “Mine is a principled opposition, their own,” he remarked, indicating that he believes his political philosophy stands apart from what he perceives as opportunistic politics……See More
