According to a report by Leadership, on Wednesday April 8, 2026, Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has stated that the political future of Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election will depend largely on voters in Northern Nigeria.
He told his church members that the North holds the key to the president’s second-term ambition and will ultimately decide the outcome of the election.
He explained that support from the South-West, which is Tinubu’s home region, may not be enough to secure victory, he said even if the president receives strong backing from his people, it will not determine the final result without the involvement and support of Northern voters.
Primate Ayodele stated that political calculations ahead of the election should focus more on the North, according to him, the region has strong voting power and influence, and its decision will shape the direction of the 2027 presidential race.
He further stated that ethnic support alone cannot win a national election, he warned that relying on regional loyalty from the Yoruba-speaking South-West would not guarantee success at the national level.
Speaking on political mobilisation, he said groups formed to promote the president may not make a real difference, he downplayed the impact of youth-driven movements and campaign strategies built around public shows of support.
He referred to efforts linked to Seyi Tinubu, noting that such initiatives cannot decide the outcome of a nationwide election, he maintained that the final decision rests with Northern voters and their political interests.
Primate Ayodele added that many people in Northern Nigeria are already facing serious challenges such as insecurity and the high cost of living, he said these issues may influence how people in the region vote during the election.
