According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, a prominent figure within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has cautioned that President Bola Tinubu’s continued leadership beyond the next election cycle could have serious implications for the Federal Capital Territory.
He alleged that Abuja might face neglect or even lose its status as the nation’s capital if Tinubu secures re-election in 2027.
Amaechi made the remarks during a protest held in Abuja on Wednesday, where party supporters gathered to express dissatisfaction with the current administration.
Addressing the crowd, he emphasized that the ADC is committed to challenging the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and aims to replicate the political shift that occurred in 2015.
He recalled how the APC successfully displaced the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from power in that year, describing it as a turning point in Nigeria’s political history.
According to him, the ADC is now positioning itself to achieve a similar outcome by mobilizing citizens and strengthening its political base ahead of the next general elections.
During his speech, Amaechi also accused President Tinubu of actions that he believes are eroding democratic principles in the country.
He suggested that recent developments indicate a growing intolerance for opposition and raised concerns about the credibility of future electoral processes under the current administration.
Amaechi further argued that the APC’s conduct suggests a lack of confidence in its popularity among Nigerians.
He questioned why a party that claims widespread support would exhibit apprehension about facing voters in a transparent electoral contest.
He also referenced Tinubu’s historical involvement in pro-democracy movements, noting that the president had once been associated with the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), a group that played a significant role in Nigeria’s struggle for democratic governance during military rule.
“They claimed to be popular, so why are they afraid of elections? Tinubu says he was part of NADECO, yet democracy is being weakened under him. In 2015, the APC benefited from Jega, who remains one of the finest INEC chairmen,” he said……See More
