FCT: We Awarded Constructions Of Two Hostels For Male And Female; Male Hostel Job Not Impressive- Wike

According to a report by Channels TV, on Thursday March 26, 2026, The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed skepticism regarding the handover date for student hostels currently under construction at the Nigerian Law School in Bwari.

While the Minister praised the structural integrity of the project, he noted a concerning disparity in progress between the male and female wings.

During a recent inspection of the facility, Wike observed that while both contractors were mobilized simultaneously, the pace of work on the male hostel has lagged behind its counterpart.

The Minister did not mince words when assessing the performance of the contractor handled the male student accommodation.

He pointed out that although the quality of the work is high, the extent of the progress is not where it should be given the timeline.

Addressing the situation during the site visit, Wike stated:

“We also awarded constructions of two hostels for male and the female students. The male hostel I’m not impressed with the job that is to the extent they’ve gone but yes it looks like a quality job.”

Wike expressed surprise at the gap in completion stages, noting that the administration had provided equal support to both contractors from the onset. His expectation was that both buildings would be rising at a symmetrical pace.

“But I’m very impressed since the contract was awarded to them. I thought that they were at the same level with the contractor the female host because they were awarded the same time and mobilized at the same time,” he added.

Despite assurances from the construction firm that the buildings would be ready for use by the end of the year, the Minister remained unconvinced.

He suggested that the current pace of work does not align with a late-year handover, signaling that his office will be keeping a closer eye on the site to ensure the project doesn’t stall further.

Reflecting on the company’s promised delivery date, Wike remarked:

“So, but the company has told us that whatever it is, they’re going to hand over October, November. Don’t believe so.”
