Sowore Warned About Maiduguri Attack Before Bombing – Activist Speaks Out

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate for the African Action Congress in the 2023 election, Omoyele Sowore, has criticized the Nigerian government for failing to act on intelligence prior to a deadly attack in Maiduguri. According to reports, several residents were killed and many injured when Boko Haram terrorists carried out bombings in the city, including near a security post at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

In a video statement, Sowore said he had forewarned authorities about the group’s plans. “Yesterday I said that Boko Haram is setting its sight on Maiduguri, and by evening they bombed the city,” he stated, stressing that timely government intervention could have prevented the tragedy.

The recent attack comes amid ongoing efforts by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to curb insecurity across the country. Tinubu has instructed the Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and other security agencies to employ new strategies to counter the escalating threat posed by terrorist groups.

Sowore’s comments underscore ongoing public frustration over the handling of security in northeastern Nigeria, a region that has been repeatedly targeted by Boko Haram. Analysts note that such warnings, when ignored, can lead to loss of life and erode public confidence in government response.
