According to a report by Al Jazeera, on Saturday, March 14, 2026, Iran’s army commander-in-chief, Amir Hatami, has issued a strong warning following the death of more than 100 Iranian naval personnel aboard the warship IRIS Dena.
According to Hatami, the tragic incident claimed the lives of 104 crew members who were onboard the vessel as it was returning from a military exercise conducted in the Indian Ocean.
The warship had reportedly completed its training operations before the deadly event occurred during its journey back.
Reacting to the development, Hatami stated that the loss of the sailors is a painful blow to Iran’s armed forces and the families of the victims.
He emphasized that the country will not ignore what happened, insisting that those responsible will eventually face consequences.
The Iranian military chief described the fallen sailors as dedicated servicemen who had committed themselves to protecting the nation and strengthening its naval capabilities.
He noted that their deaths represent a significant loss to the military community and to the country as a whole.
Hatami also stressed that Iran’s armed forces remain determined and prepared to respond to any threat against the nation.
According to him, the killing of the crew members aboard the IRIS Dena is a serious matter that cannot simply be overlooked.
