In a recent statement, former Minister of Education Obiageli Ezekwesili has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s address to the nation, as reported by DAILY POST.
The President’s speech was made on Sunday in response to ongoing protests against bad governance.
Ezekwesili described the speech as underwhelming and felt it was a missed opportunity for Tinubu to provide clear answers and present concrete actions to address governance issues.
She argued that the speech appeared focused on targeting imagined adversaries rather than addressing citizens’ concerns.
In his address, President Tinubu ruled out the return of the fuel subsidy and urged protest organizers to end their demonstrations.
Despite this, Ezekwesili was not impressed by the speech’s content.
In her statement on social media, Ezekwesili expressed disappointment, noting that the speech failed to connect with the issues causing public anger and protests.
She criticized the President for not offering substantive responses and focusing instead on supposed enemies.
She stated that a true leader should unite all citizens and not view any as enemies.
“@officialABAT , As one of millions of Nigerians who were at church when you delivered your late-in-coming Speech to Citizens on the #EndBadGovernancelnNigeria protests, let me loudly say it was terribly underwhelming to read. ‘Your Speech reads like a page from your party manifesto and terribly failed to connect to what our Citizens on the Streets are angry and protesting about.‘ Your speech is quite a monumental missed opportunity to placate citizens with sound answers and outline of convincing evidence-based actions that you and your @NigeriaGov will immediately take to address the priority #BadGovernance concerns.“
“Your Speech was sadly again written out of a mindset that is focused on ‘getting back at our enemies’. Imaginary enemies at that! No true Leader has the luxury of having ‘enemies’ among their Citizens. Not at all. A Public Leader becomes the Leader of ALL with a mind that does not think of any as their enemies,” she said….Seē _ Morē
