Kenneth Okonkwo, a well-known Nollywood actor and a member of the Labour Party, has reacted to a statement made by Oseloka Obaze. After Okonkwo criticized Peter Obi, Obaze said Okonkwo gained political relevance from Obi
However, in a interview with Seun Okinbaloye on Mic On Podcast, Okonkwo said celebrities and movie stars actually bring relevance to politicians, not the other way around. He said his resignation from the APC was widely reported even before he became associated with Obi.
Okonkwo said both he and Peter Obi benefited mutually from their association, but it is insulting to say that Peter Obi gave him political relevance. He pointed out that he had already achieved significant fame and influence through his work in Nollywood, having starred in the first Nollywood movie.
In Okonkwo’s words: “For you to say Peter Obi gave me political relevance is an insult. I am a movie star and I acted the first Nollywood movie. They are still denigrating the power of stardom?”….Seē _ Morē
