In a recent statement, human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent broadcast to Nigerians, as reported by DAILY POST.
Effiong described the president’s speech as “a pack of empty words and a time-wasting load of irrelevancies.”
He believes the speech highlights a political class that is disconnected from the struggles of ordinary Nigerians.
The president’s address, which was broadcast nationwide, addressed various issues but notably ruled out the return of the fuel subsidy.
This decision contradicts the demands of the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests, where many citizens are calling for the reinstatement of the controversial subsidy.
Effiong expressed disappointment with the president’s response, suggesting that Tinubu’s speech ignored the key concerns of the protesters.
He criticized Tinubu for failing to address the specific demands of the protests, such as electoral reforms, economic policy changes, and reducing the size of the government.
According to Effiong, the president’s address did not offer any meaningful solutions.
Effiong accused Tinubu of being out of touch with the realities faced by everyday Nigerians and criticized the president for not addressing the recent violence against protesters by security forces.
Effiong also suggested that Tinubu’s call for dialogue was insincere and lacked a credible framework for meaningful discussion.
“President Tinubu’s speech is just a pack of empty words and a time wasting load of irrelevancies.“
“It is a confirmation of my long held view, that we are dealing with a fatalistic political class that is intentionally deaf and willfully blind to the sufferings and yearnings of Nigerians.“
“This president is disconnected from the reality of the everyday Nigerian. He’s living in an imaginary Nigeria that only exists in his head. The speech couldn’t have been more meaningless and aimless.“
“Those who wrote it, and Mr. Tinubu, who read it out, have succeeded in justifying the reasons for the nationwide protest.“
“It is appalling that despite what we have witnessed across the country in the last three days, the President did not deem it necessary to speak to the specific demands of the protesters.”
“Tinubu made no concessions. This President only did what despots do; ignore the agitations of the masses,” he said….Seē _ Morē
