A Democracy And Good Governance Advocate and Scholar, Professor Ibrahim Jibrin has alleged that following the removal of Fuel subsidy the President had promised the Nation that LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) buses would be introduced within few weeks and that there would be a significant reduction in transportation costs.
He however stated that 13 months have passed since that promise and Nigerians are yet to see these changes materialize. He emphasized that this continuous cycle of unfulfilled promises creates a narrative disconnected from reality. He highlighted that the public’s patience is wearing thin as they see no tangible evidence of the progress they were promised. Given the severity of the ongoing crises, he argued that the government must deliver results promptly.
He said in an interview with Channels TV, ”Nigerians have a memory. After the removal of fuel subsidy, he (Tinubu) said we will have LNG buses in weeks and that the prices of transport will crash. And that was about 13 months ago when the President said that and Nigerians know that they haven’t seen those things. This is called waiting for Godot in Word literature. When you are told continuously that the good thing we have done, you will see them soon.
And you go from weeks to months to years and you don’t see that good coming. Then you know that what you are being told is a narrative that is not based on any reality. And that is why Nigerians today are very upset and very angry. They believe that they are being deceived regularly and systematically by the government. And at some point, Nigerians have come out to say you can’t continue to tell us stories without result. If in 14 months you are unable to show progress, then we don’t see how that progress will come in 4 years. The progress has to come immediately because the crisis is serious.” ….Seē_Morē
