Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a prominent Igbo socio-cultural group, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s nationwide address, suggesting that reversing fuel price increases might have helped alleviate the #EndBadGovernance protests. While acknowledging Tinubu’s efforts to address Nigeria’s economic challenges, the group pointed out that the address missed an opportunity to directly address the protesters’ demands.
In a statement from Ohanaeze’s factional Secretary-General, Okechukwu Iseguzoro, the group noted that although Tinubu’s economic policies appeared promising, the failure to take specific actions, such as reducing fuel prices, could prolong the protests and increase tensions. The group expressed concern over the widespread hunger protests and unrest, arguing that Tinubu’s address could have helped de-escalate the situation and potentially persuaded protesters to end their demonstrations if it had included concessions on fuel prices or other key demands.
As per The The daily Post, Ohaneze remarked, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s speech had the potential to sway the protesters off the streets if there had been a pronouncement of the reversal of fuel prices or any of the demands put forward by the organizers of the protests.”….Seê_Morê
