Binta Mukhtar, the wife of Nura Alhaji Tijjani, has spoken out about the distressing consequences of her husband’s prolonged detention by the Department of State Services (DSS). She recounted the traumatic events surrounding his arrest, where security operatives arrived with a fleet of vehicles, brutalized her husband’s loved ones, and took him away without explanation.
Since then, their children have suffered greatly, facing social ostracism and abandoning their education. Binta’s own health has deteriorated due to the relentless stress and uncertainty. With their home sold and destitution looming, she implores authorities to release her husband, fearing her children may be left orphaned like she was.
As reported by The Daily Trust News, Binta Mukhtar said, “My husband was arrested three years ago by DSS operatives. I remember vividly that day; they arrived with about 15 vehicles, beat up his family members and friends, and took him away. Since then, my children have stopped going to school. They face public rejection among their peers and in school. We still don’t know why he was arrested. What crime did he commit? We have no answers. Our lives have been turned upside down. I am now facing serious health challenges due to stress and uncertainty. Our house has been sold, and we are on the brink of destitution. Please, do not make my children orphans like me.”
The family’s plight highlights the urgent need for transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s security apparatus, ensuring that individuals are not subjected to arbitrary detention and its devastating consequences..…….See More
