Former Chief Security Officer to General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha (rtd), recently voiced his stance on political ethics in Nigeria.
In a bold statement, Al-Mustapha revealed that some politicians attempted to persuade him to overlook certain issues. However, he adamantly refused to partake in any form of deception.
Al-Mustapha questioned the transparency of governance in Nigeria by highlighting the protective laws in the United States for immigrants turned citizens. He raised the critical issue of distinguishing between immigrants and natives in Nigerian society.
By drawing attention to the protection laws in place for immigrants, Al-Mustapha underscored the need for a fair and just system of governance that encompasses all citizens equally.
In his thought-provoking remarks, Al-Mustapha challenged the prevailing norms and called for a system that upholds the rights of all individuals, irrespective of their origin.
According to Daily Trust, Al-Mustapha said,
“Some politicians came to me and said ‘You need not say that in the open, allow us to continue to operate the way we are’, but I cannot form part of cheating. What did I say? I said the United States is a country where immigrants who became citizens, have laws protecting them and the question I asked was, in Nigeria, who is an immigrant and who is an indigene? How can you have more laws and a system of governance that is protective of immigrants? Who is an immigrant in Nigeria? We are all citizens.”….Seē_Morē
