In a recent interview with ARISE NEWS, Adams Oshiomhole, the former Governor of Edo State and ex-National Chairman of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), addressed the public apology made by Philip Shaibu. Oshiomhole clarified that he never demanded Shaibu to kneel, emphasizing that the gesture was entirely Shaibu’s choice as part of seeking forgiveness.
Oshiomhole expressed his readiness to welcome Shaibu back into the APC fold, underscoring the importance of forgiveness in their reconciliation process. He acknowledged that while Shaibu had made mistakes in the past, there was hope that this experience would foster a renewed dedication to the party. Oshiomhole suggested that only time would tell if Shaibu’s loyalty would endure.
Reflecting on the public display of contrition, Oshiomhole remarked, “Regarding Shaibu kneeling before me in public, it was never my request for him to do so. He identified himself as a prodigal son, which is a concept rooted in biblical teachings. Who am I to deny him the opportunity for repentance? As a leader, one must possess a forgiving heart.”
He continued by emphasizing that the act of kneeling was not about respect or disrespect towards him personally. Instead, it symbolized a deeper, spiritual reconciliation and a return to the party’s principles. Oshiomhole reiterated that Shaibu had been welcomed back into the APC family, illustrating that the party values inclusivity and second chances.
He added: “He did things I would never have approved of. I have forgiven him and I hope he has learnt his lesson that you don’t throw everything away. Somebody asked me if I can trust his future loyalty and I said that it is a matter of time. For now, forgiveness is the name of the game and I have forgiven him.”….Seē_Morē
