In a recent report by Sahara Reporters, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa has called on President Bola Tinubu and his administration to take decisive action in addressing Nigeria’s current economic crisis. Adegboruwa’s appeal comes amid growing concerns over the country’s economic stability and the impact of recent policy decisions on citizens’ livelihoods.
The prominent lawyer identified two key policies as major contributors to the nation’s economic woes: the removal of oil subsidies and the devaluation of the currency. Adegboruwa urged the immediate reversal of these measures, arguing that they have effectively crippled the economy and plunged Nigeria into its worst economic crisis in recent memory.
In addition to policy reversals, Adegboruwa emphasized the need for the government to curb what he described as extravagant spending and wastefulness. He cited specific examples to illustrate his point, including the President’s recent purchase of a new jet and the Vice-President’s allocation of N21 billion for home renovation. These expenditures, according to Adegboruwa, stand in stark contrast to the economic hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians.
The lawyer questioned the moral justification of asking citizens to endure economic hardship while those in power continue to enjoy lavish lifestyles. He stressed the importance of leadership by example, suggesting that government officials should practice the same austerity they preach to the public.
“I will first of all appeal to President Tinubu and his team to rise up to this occasion and stop chasing shadows,” Adegboruwa stated. He went on to emphasize the urgent need to end wasteful spending by government functionaries, particularly their “lavish and luxurious lifestyles.”….Seē _ Morē
