Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South, has accused former President Muhammadu Buhari of allowing non-Nigerians to enter the country, despite warnings from Senators. During an interview with Arise TV, Abaribe highlighted concerns about a particular subgroup known as the Bororo Fulani, who, according to him, are recognized by Nigerian Fulanis as non-native and landless within Nigeria.
Abaribe explained that the Bororo Fulani are distinct from the native Fulani population. He emphasized that the Bororo Fulani, who are essentially foreign, were granted entry into Nigeria under the Buhari administration. The Senator’s primary concern was the potential threat posed by these non-Nigerians, arguing that they lack any allegiance or empathy towards Nigerian citizens. He feared that their self-interest would drive them to act in ways detrimental to the local populace.
He stated, “If you ask any Nigerian Fulani, he will tell you that there is something called the Bororo Fulani, and that Bororo Fulani are the imported ones. They don’t own land. Therefore, what they wanted to do was to settle in Nigeria; they were given free passage by the Buhari regime. We were shouting that don’t bring people who are not Nigerians into Nigeria. They won’t have sympathy. All they want to do is to displace you and then take over your place and roam freely within the country.”
Abaribe’s allegations reflect broader concerns about national security and the impact of immigration policies on local communities. His remarks suggest a belief that the presence of the Bororo Fulani in Nigeria could lead to significant social and economic disruptions, as well as potential conflicts over land and resources. The Senator’s comments underscore the importance of considering the long-term implications of immigration policies and the need to balance national interests with humanitarian considerations..…..See More
