The Kano State Government has refused to pay the sum of N10 million in compensation to Ado Bayero, as ordered by a high court, citing that Bayero illegally occupied the Gidan Nasarawa palace.
According to Sanusi Bature, the spokesperson for Governor Abba Yusuf, the palace was left in a dilapidated state, and the government fears that if left unattended, it could lead to a dangerous situation.
Bature explained that the government’s decision is based on the fact that Bayero forced himself into the palace, which was not used by the previous Emir, Aminu, as a resting area. The government has instead asked Bayero to vacate the palace to allow for renovations to bring it up to standard, as it will be used as a guest house by the new Emir, Emir Sanusi.
In his own words, ”The first ruling of the previous high court said Ado Bayero should be given 10 million naira because his human rights were violated. We will not give him N10M because he forced himself into that palace. When Aminu was the Emir of Kano City, he didn’t use the Gidan Nasarawa palace as a resting area. So the place is dilapidated, and we are afraid of a situation where something bad could happen. So therefore, we are asking him to vacate the palace so that we can renovate it to standard because the new Emir, Emir Sanusi, will continue to use it as a guest house.”..…….See More
